LJ and email are the only ways I get news of my children and grandchildren now, so I would say that technology has a BIG impact here. My mother and sister are just a phone call away, and also within visiting distance (an hour and a half away). IMHO, George W. Bush will be most remembered for how in less than one year he completely eliminated all the good budgetary legacy left to us by Bill Clinton, how he obliterated the budget surplus with tax cuts to the rich, and how he began to raise the national deficit exponentially even before his Iraq War folly.
